Ayatul Kursi (Verse of the Throne) is the 255th Ayah of Surah al-Baqarah (The Chapter of the Cow).
The merits of Ayatul Kursi has been mentioned in many AHadith. Although the Quran itself and every Ayah therein are of excellence, Ayatul Kursi is certainly the most excellent verse of all verses.
Below are a few examples of the excellence of Ayatul Kursi.
1. Hazrat Ibne Masood (R.A) narrates that a person requested Rasoolullah (S.A.W) to teach
him something that will benefit him. "The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said, "Read Ayatul Kursi, it will protect you, your children, home and even those houses surrounding your house."
2. Hazrat Ibne Anas (R.A) narrates that Rasoolullah (S.A.W) said: "The one who recites Ayatul Kursi after every Fard Salah, Allah (S.W.T) will grant him a gratifying heart, actions of the truthful and reward like the Ambiya. Special mercies will descend upon him, and death is the only barrier from his entrance into Jannah. On dying he will enter Jannah".
3. Hazrat Ayesha (R.A.) narrates that once a person came to the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) and said that there was absolutely no "Barakat" (blessings) in the things at home. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) replied, "Why are you neglectful of Ayatul Kursi."
4. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) has said: When leaving home, if one recites Ayatul Kursi,
then Allah (S.W.T) will send 70,000 Angels to do Istighfar for him until he returns home, and upon his return Poverty will be removed from him.
5. Blowing it upon food and drink brings blessings and abundance.
6. The thief does not come near its reciter.
7. When one reads it and blows on his possessions and goods, then Shaitan will not come near.
8. Holy Prophet (S.A.W) has said: These things increase ones memory: sweets, meat of an animal near the neck, Adas (Lentils), cold bread and recitation of Ayatul Kursi.
9. Recitation of Ayatul Kursi for the deceased, gives them light (Noor) in the grave.
10. Frequent recitation makes ones own death easy.
11. When leaving home, if one recites it once, the Almighty has one group of Angels to come and protect you. If recited twice, 2 groups of Angels are assigned to do this. If recited 3 times Allah (S.W.T) tells the Angels not to worry as the Almighty himself takes care of him.
12. Hazrate Fatima Zahra (R.A) narrates, "When the time approached for her delivery, then the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) ordered Hazrat Umme Salmah (R.A) and Hazrate Zainab (R.A) to go to Hazrate Fatima (R.A) and recite Ayatul Kursi and "Inna Rabba Kumullaah" (the whole Ayat) and the last two Quls and blow on her.
13. When one is alone in the house, recitation of Ayatul Kursi and asking Allah (S.W.T) for help will make you remain calm and you will not fear.
14. Hazrat Ali (R.A) narrates, “I cannot understand how a person, who is a Muslim, and owner of reason (intellect) can spend the night without reading Ayatul Kursi. If you knew the benefits of it, then you will never discard it under any condition”. Rasoolullah (S.A.W) stated ,"I have been given Ayatul Kursi from the treasures under the Arsh of Allah (S.W.T) and it was not given to anyone before me".
